This Week's List
- Andrew Bird's Armchair Apocrypha.
- The fact that the day of the nominee's speech at the Dem convention this summer is the 45th anniversary of MLK's "I have a dream" speech.
- Michael Chabon's The Yiddish Policeman's Union.
- Fried chicken (white), collard greens, and mac-and-cheese from Paschal's, Terminal A.
- Free wireless, plus flat screens with ESPN in HD in the room at a Hampton Inn.
- Springsteen doing the unprecedented, playing all of Darkness in order, followed by all of Born To Run in order, plus encores for a benefit show.
- Cindy at Gate B32, who moved me from the window in Row 31 to an aisle exit in Row 27.
- A basement that doesn't accumulate water in heavy rain.
This Week's Other List
- The Junta in Burma.
- Cheap DVR boxes.
- Shots of liquor or bottles of cheap beer as part of the campaign process. Are we making them audition for the White House or rush a fraternity?
- Forgetting to bring my big, fat to-go iced tea from Paschal's when boarding my connection.
- Waking up and feeling like a nap.
- The unmistakable impression that many Appalachian Democrats would just rather not vote for a black guy.
- Breakfast interrupted by the unexpected yet undisregardable union of dog vomit and carpet. Or as I subsequently reported to Mrs. P via IM ... (B)arf.
Dog vomit, went through that twice today, as our Dino decided to lap up
water as if he were a hummingbird, and as it was pouring, couldn't go out &
eat grass, so he barfed through the living room. As far as the ominous
election, I'm not deciding or fixing on anyone yet. I'm actually hoping to
retreat to a better, more civilized time, as I've just received Anthony
Phillips' 'The Geese & The Ghost" 2 cd remaster/etc in the post, and plan
on spending quite a few hours, with headphones as not to disturb the
family, listening in bliss!
