Barack, John, and Me -- So Obama said our soldiers lives are being wasted in this war in Iraq. He was criticized and quickly rephrased. Then last night, John "Mr. Surge" McCain also said that our soldiers' lives were being wasted, but then he backtracked to say he should've used the word "sacrificed" instead of "wasted." Of course, those soldiers' entire lives weren't wasted, but the real truth rests closer to their original comments and somewhere between McCain's two versions: really, (many of) our soldiers' sacrifices have been wasted.
(This reminds me of my platform position on war-oriented video games. To be a little more forthright about the actual enterprise, each game has a slightly lame training mode, and also an incredibly realistic battle mode. Play in training mode as many times as you want. But when you go to battle mode, if you get killed, the software locks, game over.)
Regarding a different type of fatal situation, this site is more or less about the last meals of executed prisoners.
About time -- OpenCongress provides a one-stop source to check the status of (and meaning of) bills.
So this morning, I'm still waking up when I see a headline: "Gay vet wants others to serve openly," and I'm thinking, as long as he keeps my dogs healthy, what do I care?
